Abuja news update: Flood sweeps unidentified local resident away. (VIDEO)

On Wednesday, the 26th of August 2020, residents of Trademore Estate, Lugbe-Abuja faced a flood disaster caused by the heavy rain which fell on that day.
The rain which started at about 3pm and didn't stop until dusk, destroyed a lot of properties in phase 2. The main cause of the flood was as a result of the overflow of the estate canal which is situated in phase 2.

Water got into a lot of houses built very close to the canal. Shops were destroyed, water got into houses, gates were pulled from their hinges...

At between 3:30 and 4pm a man started a video to show the natural disaster around. In the video, we can see cars being directed to go back to where ever they were coming from to avoid being swallowed by the water. As it was almost impossible to return back, some parked nearby and remained in their cars.
We can also see three ladies and a man - female employees and a customer after cutting his hair - coming out from a bar place,  where they had to seek shelter  while waiting for the rain to subside. The man behind the camera shouted at the group to go back inside. While the ladies accepted the advice, the man kept on going even while the water was already at his thigh level. He kept on going until he fell into the gutter. At this point he was now at the head level, looking for something to grab unto. The water eventually took him away.

His body was found a day later at River Park, an estate entirely far from Trademore Estate and situated across the express way, where it was later buried.

Some said he was in a haste to move his car from where it was parked so it wouldn't be carried away by the water. It is sad that he chose a thing of vanity over his life. At the end, his car survived and he didn't.

We pray for his soul to find peace.
