Why I stayed when kidnappers broke into my home, Dr. Akwa Okuko, a well-known Anambra native, explains

Chidozie Nwangwu, also known as "Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki," a well-known local doctor from Anambra, has said that he had the power to stop his kidnapping but chose not to.

After being taken last Sunday, Nwangwu was freed early on Saturday.

Nwangwu spoke about his experience and said that after his two bodyguards were slain, he willingly turned himself into his captors to stop the further killing.

"What truly occurred," he said, "was that I was there (at home) that day at around 11:30 am when someone phoned and said they were at my hotel, they were spending money, had spent close to N300,000, and they would have liked me to be there.

"I complied with them and drove my brand-new automobile by myself to the motel. No one accompanied me. As soon as 30 minutes after I arrived, I heard gunfire. People began scurrying around wildly. When I walked outside to investigate, the shooters immediately began firing at me.

"Two of my security guards were slain. I don't want to say too much right now, but I am aware that a guy may be saved by just two things. If your charms fail to rescue you, your wealth will.

"Anyone with charms ought to be wealthy. So they drove me away in their vehicle. If I had wanted to flee, I would have done so, but after seeing the victims of gunfire, I warned that if I left, they would murder plenty of people. Many individuals were sprawled out, and they would have murdered many of them if I had tried to flee.

"The narrative would have continued that I was the one who brought in kidnappers and that I was the one who began the entire thing. I chose to do so to demonstrate that my hands were clean. I was able to rescue a lot of souls. Let me assure you that I did not steal anyone's money, despite what you may believe. Come to me if I eat your money, and I'll give it to you since I have money.

"This whole situation is tied to these stay-at-home individuals, and they suggested names of further individuals they would accept, but it's not something I can disclose at this time. Many people were slaughtered in front of me. Before I arrived, they slaughtered up to 20 individuals. I did not steal anyone's money; they just came to abduct, and they focus on wealthy individuals. That day, they attempted to abduct up to 50 individuals from my hotel, but I chose to follow them instead..
